Embarrassed with a video clip of the police interrogation of a dreaded criminal-turned-businessman of Jammu,who is still in custody,finding its way to Internet sites,including Facebook and YouTube,the Jamp;K Government has ordered an inquiry.
Sources in the Jamp;K Government told The Sunday Express that while nothing could be said with certainty till the DGP submits a report,the needle of suspicion points to a Jamp;K Police officer who was present inside the room of the Gandhi Nagar police station when the alleged don Chaudhary Nagar Singh alias Nago was interrogated.
Sources said the polices efforts to persuade major Internet sites to take the video clip off their websites has yielded mixed results,with the clips getting posted again on the same sites after their removal.
The video clip that has appeared on Internet looks genuine. We dont know who made the video while Nagar Singh was being interrogated or why it was allowed to be made. SSP Jammu is looking into the matter on the orders of DGP Kuldeep Khoda. The government is going to take action against the person involved in this act, said a senior official.
In an explosive claim,one of the police officers interrogating Nago can be heard pegging his net worth at Rs 1580 crore. The video shows cops questioning Nago about how he bagged all Food Corporation of India FCI transportation contracts unchallenged,his involvement in cricket betting and his closeness to certain politicians.
Nago,a one-time bus driver,who along with his two brothers Ujjagar Singh and Rakesh Singh was allegedly at the helm of the organised crime syndicate in Jammu,is behind bars since late 2009 for fudging evidence of his son Jatinder Singh alias Rajas alleged involvement in the death of the son of a National Conference woman MLC in August 2009.
A former SSP Jammu,many other senior Jamp;K Police officers and forensic experts,who helped Nago in tampering with the evidence and even replacing the murder weapon,are also in jail for the past two years. While in jail,Nago also allegedly tried to get an eyewitness in the case killed through a supari killer. He has also been named in the murders of a Jammu businessman Raju Chopra,his wife,daughter,driver and servant a few years ago.
In the leaked video clip,then Jammu SSP Basant Rath is seen asking the bulk of questions to Nago,many a times suggesting names of senior police officers who were close to Nago. Rath is also shown threatening Nago,even placing his feet on the legs of the once-dreaded criminal who is sitting on the floor. Rath is currently posted as SSP Vigilance.
Nago is also threatened that if he didnt answer the questions,he would be sodomised and people outside would be told about it.
