An inmate at the Jodhpur central jail attacked and killed a jailor,Bharat Bhushan Bhatt,inside the jail premises on Saturday evening,after the daily roll call. According to the Jodhpur police,Narender Singh Jat stabbed Bhushan in the throat while the inmates were returning to their cells.
A senior police officer,Bhushan had played police roles in Hindi movies,including 13 May Gulabi Nagar,a local production of the events surrounding the May 13 serial blasts in Jaipur. Bhatt,from Kishengarh in Ajmer,is survived by his wife and daughter. Jodhpur IGP Bhupender Dak said the incident occurred around 7 pm.
The jail authorities had finished the daily headcount and the inmates were heading back to their cells when Jat attacked Bhushan with a knife, Dak said.
He added that an FIR had been lodged at the Ratanwada police station. After the incident on Saturday,Bhushan was rushed to MG Hospital,where he succumbed to injuries.
The Jodhpur police stated that Jat,a resident of Uttar Pradesh,was convicted of murder in 2008 and was serving a life sentence.
According to senior police officials,Bhatt,a senior jailor,was an experienced police officer,who had spent most of his career in jails across the state and was transferred from Jaipur to Jodhpur in 2008.
