Former telecom minister A Raja on Thursday told the special CBI court hearing the 2G spectrum case that his priority was preparing his defence in the case and not attending Parliament.
Raja made the remarks after special CBI Judge O P Saini said he would have allowed him to attend Parliament, but he did not want to go. The judge had permitted another DMK MP and Rajas co-accused Kanimozhi to attend the Budget Session.
I can present my case before the lordships (judges)…but what can I do before the Speaker or the Prime Minister, said Raja.
The judge made the remark after Rajas counsel Sushil Kumar requested that the post-lunch session be adjourned to allow him to go to the Supreme Court for a hearing related to the same case. The judge allowed his plea after recording former telecom secretary D S Mathurs statement. The court added that he would not allow such practice in future.
