Power ministry seeks gas allocation for 8 projects

Among the likely beneficiaries are Reliance Power,Sugen and Dahej SEZ projects of Torrent Power,Panduranga Energy,RVK Rajamundry Pvt Ltd,Beta Infratech,Gama Infratech,and Kashipur Project of Sravanti Energy. According to the ministrys recommendation,Reliance Power would garner the major share of 9.60 mmsmd.

The EGoM,headed by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee had earlier planned to allocate gas to the plants which will be commissioned during 11th plan period. The EGoM is yet to take a call on the allocation to Reliance Power on the grounds whether gas from Krishna-Godavari KG-D6 gas fields can be reserved for the company by capping the output at current levels and producing volumes in excess of this level when the firms plants are built.

Earlier in May,the power ministry had recommended allocating 15.59 mmscmd of natural gas to six other power plants that were to be commissioned this year. These projects were: Hazira CCPP of Gujarat State Energy,Pipavav CCPP of GSPC Pipavav,Pragati Stage III of Pragati Power,Lanco Kondapalli Stage III and Vemagiri Expansion CCPP of GMR Energy.
