Post-Pavit,Antony reviews security

Navy and Coast Guard said there had been a rise of 60-80 per cent in ship deployment and 100 per cent rise in aircraft deployment.

With a special focus on coastal security,Defence Minister A K Antony on Monday carried out a comprehensive security review with three services chiefs Army Chief General V K Singh,Navy Chief Admiral Nirmal Verma and IAF Chief Air Chief Marshal N A K Browne and Defence Secretary Shashikant Sharma.

According to officials,focus was laid on coastal security in the wake of the recent MT Pavit incident off the Mumbai coast. The minister is learnt to have asked Navy and Coast Guard to prevent recurrence of such incidents and ensure the security of coasts with all available resources at their command.

Navy and Coast Guard said there had been a rise of 60-80 per cent in ship deployment and 100 per cent rise in aircraft deployment.

Besides,the review meeting,which lasted nearly six hours,discussed the present security scenario,threat perception and measures to improve the same. Antony was told about various coordination exercises and drills undertaken by the military to enhance cooperation and inter-operability among the three services.
