Posco work stuck,Naxals support stir

Work at the proposed Posco site in Jagatsinghpur district continued to be obstructed for the third consecutive day with people putting up a road blockade.

Work at the proposed Posco site in Jagatsinghpur district continued to be obstructed for the third consecutive day with people putting up a road blockade.

At Balisahi junction, from where roads lead to Nuagaon and Dhinkia panchayats in the proposed Rs 52,000-crore Posco project, hundreds sat on dharna, obstructing construction work. As a result, armed police force was unable to proceed.

But despite the protest, the administration could cut about 400 casuarina and other trees at the Nuagaon forestland. On Monday, officials had cut down over 1,000 such trees when the Jagatsinghpur ADM and SP were attacked with broomsticks by women at Nuagaon village.

At Govindpur, opposition to the project continued despite the district administration warning against the use of children as human shield. On Tuesday, members from OPCC and CPI joined the children at the dharna site.
