Police recruitment: UP withdraws plea against HC order

The appointment was quashed on the ground that large scale bungling had taken place in the recruitment.

The Uttar Pradesh government on Friday withdrew its petition in the Supreme Court against an Allahabad High Court order to reinstate over 18,000 police constables sacked by the state government over an alleged recruitment scandal.

The Mayawati government had cancelled the selection of 18,000 policemen by the previous government headed by Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav which had recruited over 22,500 constables out of which about 18,000 constables were sacked by his predecessor government.

The appointment was quashed on the ground that large scale bungling had taken place in the recruitment.
