With Chief Vigilance Commissioner Pratyush Sinha retiring in September, the government on Friday formally set in motion the process of finding his successor and filling up the vacant posts of two vigilance commissioners. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh met Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj and is learnt to have discussed the names.

The meeting although customary as the Leader of the Opposition has to be consulted before appointing the CVC assumes political significance as it comes a week after the top BJP leaders, including Swaraj, refused to attend a lunch the Prime Minister was to host to highlight what they called the misuse of CBI by the government.

Sources in the BJP confirmed that the two discussed appointment of CVC and two vigilance commissioners, but was not forthcoming on whether the opposition leader has suggested any names for the posts.
