Ketan Mehta is all set to release the long delayed Rang Rasiya based on the life of the famous painter Raja Ravi Varma. Set in the 19th century, the film will take the audience for a periodic ride as the director has put in a lot of effort to bring reality to the film. We shot at Kerala, the great painter8217;s home-town,where we managed to get access to his mansion there. Raja Ravi Varma was an inspirational painter, who wandered all over India for inspiration, something which is reflected in his paintings. The film was shot at all the places that he visited like Banaras,Pune,Rajasthan,Madhya Pradesh and the Baroda Palace, said Mehta, who has also shown the Victoria Terminus building and the Ballard estate.

Says Mehta,Such structures cannot be re-erected. They are way too magnificent and it becomes difficult to carve the replica out with detailing. And also,I think in India, such monuments are well-maintained. So it becomes easy to shoot at the original structures.

Since the film is shot at his palace it will also showcase some of Varma8217;s original paintings. The director also confirms that his team has morphed the real photos of the painter and his wife with the images of Randeep Hooda and Nandana Sen,using digital technology. Thus the background, the colours and the wardrobe remains the same, while the faces change!
