Heres a score that will be truly highlighted only after the films release. But the merits are high even if, uniquely,none of the four tracks are especially composed for the film.
The standout track is undoubtedly Indian Oceans Zindagi se darte ho the lyrics by Noon Meem Rashed stand out. Ranking almost on par is the brilliant Mehengai daayan,sung by Raghubir Yadav along with the Bhadwai Village Mandali that has originally written and composed this folk number.
Indian Oceans Des mera is a tried-and-tested hit,and the add-on lyrics by Swanand Kirkire are merely to fit it more into the films context. Finally Chola maati ke Ram,sung and composed by Nageen Tanvir,has a quaint tenor and beat and its traditional lyrics by Gangaram Saket round off a charmer of a song.
A refreshing score by its sheer concept,Peepli Live is worth a listen and many more.
Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai

This is Pritams first impressive work this year and the music-savvy director of the film must have had a role to play in the result. But oddly enough,it is the spicy old-with-original mix Parda Sunidhi-Rana Mazumder that works best in the album the mixing with two old RD hits with the new portions is done imaginatively and the sound and groove is superb.
Tum jo aaye Rahat Tulsi Kumar also scores high,and I am in love Karthik is a fresh composition that has the right blend of trends and melody yes,the two have virtually become exclusive nowadays. Mika is a delight in Baburao,but we wish that the catchy Pee loon,which is the latest chart-topper,was rendered either more effectively by Mohit Chauhan,or by a more effective and expressive voice. Songs too need to be properly cast,you know.

This is a chick flick,and so the score must match. But the query that looms large is does it have to be so superficial,and so non-ambitious in intent or impact?
Amit Trivedi has yet to live up to his Dev D promise,which does not bode well for a new talent remember Monty Sharma,Mithoon,Sanjeev-Darshan et al?. The lead track,Suno Aisha,is the heard-today-gone-in-a-fortnight type,though Javed Akhtars young lyrics catch attention. Behke behke Samrat Kaushal-Raman Mahadevan,By the way Anushka Manchanda as lead vocalist and Shaam Amit Trivedi-Neuman Pinto are current coin numbers that have little recall value even after repeated hearings. Anushas melancholy Lehrein,though it sounds melodious does not endure.
The saving-grace is Gal mitthi mitthi bol,which is the only song sung by Tochi Raina that remains in your mental reverb after the soundtrack is over.

The standout track is Satya sanathan Yesudas and his son Vijay Yesudas,though Shankar Mahadevans Om shanti ugraroopa Hanuman and Chitra-Sadhana Sargams Ramayan divya katha also sound pleasant. The lyrics are decent,ditto the late maestro L.Vaidyanathans music.
