Onion export ban to be reviewed today

The reconsideration comes less than two weeks after the ban was imposed on export of onions as the price of the commodity shot up recently.

With onion growers in Maharashtra continuing with their protest against the ban on exports,the empowered group of ministers (EgoM),headed by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee,is slated to meet on Tuesday to reconsider the decision. “We will take a view on the onion export ban tomorrow,” Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar said on Monday. He had personally petitioned the Prime Minister last week to reconsider the decision. The reconsideration comes less than two weeks after the ban was imposed on export of onions as the price of the commodity shot up recently.
