Worried over the growing perception of a sense of drift in the scandal-hit UPA II,Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today constituted a Group of Ministers GoM to better communicate the governments policies and decisions to the public.
This GoM on media, chaired by Home Minister P Chidambaram, comes after consultations between Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi. It will also include Union ministers Ambika Soni,Ghulam Nabi Azad,Kapil Sibal,Salman Khursheed,Pawan Bansal and V Narayansamy.
None of the Congresss allies will be represented.
According to the PMO circular, this GoM will meet every day at a fixed hour to analyse the events of the day before briefing the media at 3 pm. A written brief will also be released.
The GoM has been authorised to issue suitable directions to top officials concerned to prepare appropriate materials to brief the media.
Sources said that depending on the news cycle, one of the GoM members or the minister concerned will brief the media.
