One more dead,remaining victims start recovering

The toll in Mumbais serial blasts rose to 19.

The toll in Mumbais serial blasts rose to 19 on Saturday,with a 44-year-old resident of Bhayander,Baburam Das,succumbing to his injuries. Das worked in a jewellery store and was injured in the blast at Opera House.

His leg had been injured severely and he also seemed to have internal injuries. We tried our best to revive him, said a doctor at Saifee Hospital. Following a cardiac arrest,Das passed away at 2.30 am.

Incidentally,when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi visited the hospital during their trip to Mumbai after the blasts,they had been informed of Dass critical condition.

His heart-broken brother-in-law said Das was survived by his wife and 14-year-old son. Where will they go now? Who will look after them? The financial situation of the family is not stable.

The condition of the others injured in the blasts seems to be stable and improving,except at Harkisondas Hospital,where at least seven of the 23 who are admitted continue to be critical.

Dharmendra Jadiya was operated upon. But due to a loss of blood which is common in such orthopaedic surgeries,he has been shifted to the CCU, a doctor at Harkisondas said.

At G T Hospital,the seven blast victims are responding well to treatment. While Fateh Bahadur 35 was critical for a while,he is now responding to treatment. All other patients are recovering, said a doctor.

At Bombay Hospital,Prajapati Khangaram 45 is still on life suppport but his condition has not worsened,said doctors. He has severe burns to his face and body. He also suffered fractures in his legs and left arm, said Dr Sagar Sakle,officer on special duty at the hospital. The other patients at the hospital are recuperating.

At J J Hospital,Ajay Verma and Prashant Joshi are on ventilator support but stable.
