No ‘recall’ but Tata to replace Manza part

He said the company is changing the anti-roll bar bush with a more sturdy material than the earlier one.

The anti-roll bar bush is placed between two moving metal parts to prevent friction and provide stability to the vehicle while on the move.

“We are not recalling the Manzas. We are just changing the part as and when the cars are brought to the service centres by customers,” he added.

When asked how many units of the Manza will be covered under this exercise,he said: “All the Manzas that are sold so far.”

He,however,declined to comment on the exact number of Manza sold so far. The model was launched in October 2009.

As per the company’s website,the Manza is currently priced between Rs 5.63 lakh and Rs 7.96 lakh (ex-showroom,Delhi).

Earlier last year,Tata Motors had asked an estimated 1.40 lakh Nano owners to bring back their cars for change of the starter motor free-of-cost. It was the biggest-ever replacement exercise in the Indian automobile history.

At that time also,the company had insisted that it was not a recall and the old starter motor was replaced with a new and ‘better’ one.

In November 2010 too,Tata Motors had asked about 70,000 Nano buyers to bring back their cars to add fire-safety devices free-of-cost after a series of instances of the car catching fire.

Last week,German luxury auto maker BMW had said it will start recalling 3,422 units of 5 and 6-Series cars in India to replace a faulty battery cable cover,as part of a global exercise.

Earlier,market leader Maruti Suzuki India’s recall of one lakh units of its A-Star hatchback in 2009 to replace a fuel pump gasket to check possible fuel leakage was the biggest such exercise in India.

In September 2011,Honda Siel Cars India said it would call back 72,115 units of its flagship mid-sized City sedan to replace defective power window switches.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor had also announced last year the recall of 41,000 units of its Etios sedan and Liva small car in India to replace a faulty inlet pipe to the fuel tank.
