No black clothes at Rahul rally

All men in black and women too had a harrowing time at Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhis rally in Ferozepur on Wednesday as the Punjab Police personnel stopped those wearing black pullovers, cardigans, jackets or shawls from entering the venue.

The decision was taken by the Punjab Police apparently after the incident of black flags being shown to Rahul Gandhi at an election rally at Duddhi in Sonbhadra district of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday.

No one was spared only those who agreed to leave their black sweaters or jackets at the entrance were let in.

A police officer deployed at the entrance of the venue said: Many people are coming from far-off areas and we do not know who emerges as a miscreant. Therefore,we requested them to remove their black clothes.

On the other hand, many people expressed their anger as they were asked to remove their winter clothes.

An elderly Jagtar Singh, who had come all the way from a village in Fazilka to catch a glimpse of Rahul Gandhi, asked: Such a big leader is scared of black clothes?

Women and children, too, were asked to remove their black clothes if they wanted to enter the venue. Within half-an-hour,the police had collected a pile of black clothes that people had left at the entrance hoping to recover them back after the rally.

While it was not known whether they got their clothes back, the pile had vanished by the time the rally ended.
