Former Lok Sabha member and Delhi Police commissioner Nikhil Kumar is set to get a gubernatorial assignment in one of the Northeast states. It was learnt that while former HRD minister Arjun Singh is also being considered for the post of Governor,a final decision is yet to be taken.

The Union Home Ministry is in the process of finalising the names of Governors for Assam,Manipur and Nagaland. “While Nikhil Kumar’s name has been cleared,Arjun Singh’s name is still under discussion,” a highly placed official source told The Sunday Express.

Kumar, who lost the last Lok Sabha election from Aurangabad, comes from a prominent political family of Bihar. His father Satyendra Narayan Sinha was the former chief minister of Bihar, while his grandfather Anugrah Narayan,an eminent Gandhian, was the first deputy chief minister and finance minister of Bihar.

Arjun Singh is said to be eager to take up gubernatorial assignment, although he still has two-and-a-half years left in the Rajya Sabha. If he resigns, the Congress is unlikely to regain the Rajya Sabha seat from BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh. But the Congress leadership is said to be keen to rehabilitate Singh who had been dropped from the Union Cabinet.
