Even as the Assam government has started a series of discussions with various stakeholders on the fears and apprehensions over the upcoming Lower Subansiri dam on the Assam-Arunachal boundary,the National Hydro-Electric Power Corporation (NHPC) has asserted it would complete the 2000-MW project at any cost.
Some groups are trying to disturb the project. There are groups from outside too. While some are trying to create a negative impression about the safety aspects,we are going to complete the project at any cost, Om Prakash,general manager,NHPCs Lower Subansiri project,said.
Meanwhile,experts have suggested certain modifications in the hydel project to allay the fears of the people. There is a lot of scope for modifications and even convert it into a multi-purpose project which will also address the downstream impact issues that include flash floods,erosion and the threat to bio-diversity, Nayan Sharma,Head of the Department of Hydrology at IIT Roorkee,said.
