Conceding to NCP’s demand that political posts should be shared with allies,Shriniwas Dadasaheb Patil, former MP and close associate of party chief Sharad Pawar, was appointed the new Governor of Sikkim on Wednesday.

Patil, who succeeds incumbent B P Singh in the Gangtok Raj Bhavan, was named Governor by President Pranab Mukherjee. A former IAS officer,Patil has represented Satara Lok Sabha constituency in Maharashtra.

Months ago when the NCP had threatened to quit the ruling alliance,it had also made its displeasure known to the Congress leadership that the latter was making all gubernatorial and other appointments without giving allies any share. Patil’s appointment shows that the Congress has given in to Pawar’s demand.
