Naveen sacks another minister

Orissa Chief Minister and BJD president Naveen Patnaik sacked another minister and Pyari Mohan Mohapatra loyalist Sarda Nayak for his key role in the bid to overthrow him

Orissa Chief Minister and BJD president Naveen Patnaik on Monday sacked another minister and Pyari Mohan Mohapatra loyalist Sarda Nayak for his key role in the bid to overthrow him. Nayak held the Urban Development Ministry and the Excise department.

Nayak, who represents the Rourkela Assembly constituency, was allegedly the one who had organised men and money for the attempted overthrow of the Patnaik government. He is the sixth BJD person to face the axe after Patnaik swung into action after cutting short his UK visit. Party sources said more ministers and MLAs are likely to face action in the coming days.

I have forwarded a letter requesting the Governor of Orissa to dismiss Sarda Prasad Nayak,Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development Department, Naveen said after sacking Nayak. The CM said the charges against Nayak were more serious than the shadow of corruption. He said he would look after the Housing and Urban Development portfolio while the Excise department has been allotted to Finance Minister Prafulla Ghadai.

Reacting to the development,Mohapatra said he expected the minister to get the sack. I was surprised that CM did not axe him on June 1. After he reached Bhubaneswar, the CM told Nayak that he would destroy him and called him bloody. Nayak shot back asking the CM not to use slang language against him, said Mohapatra.

Keonjhar MLA Subarna Nayak had earlier alleged that he was present at a meeting held in a hotel in Rourkela on May 26 evening, where discussions took place about a mineral trader bankrolling about Rs 200 crore for the coup. The Keonjhar MLA also alleged that Mohapatra was involved in a mining scam.

Replying to the allegation,Mohapatra said the CM should institute a CBI probe in next 15 days against him to verify his role in the mining scam as well as raising of Rs 200 crore.
