At 72.52 per cent,Madhya Pradesh’s updated voter turnout is its highest since it came into being in 1956. As many as 3,34,87,598 voters exercised their franchise,comprising 75.53 per cent of the men and 69.77 of the women. While Chhindwara district reported the highest turnout,81.52 per cent,Alirajpur’s was lowest at 55.77 per cent. The state election office released the revised figures late Tuesday,saying the delay was caused because EVM machines in far-flung areas continued to reach district headquarters till late Monday. ENS

Candidate dies in road accident

JODHPUR: A candidate for the Rajasthan elections was among five persons killed Monday night in a road accident near Pachpadra. Narendra Kumar Dewasi was a candidate of the National People’s Party,led in Rajasthan by K L Meena. He was to contest from Gudamalani constituency in Barmer district. He and the other four persons died when their vehicle collided head-on with a truck,said Barmer SP Sawai Singh Godara. A sixth victim is in critical condition. ENS (with PTI)

Booth clocks more votes than voters

AIZAWL: The Mizoram election office has referred to the Election Commission a case in which a polling station has registered 26 votes more than the number of people who voted there. This happened in Aizawl South 1. At the same polling station,police on Monday arrested a polling officer for allegedly instructing voters to press “the third button on the EVM”. The arrest followed after some parties complained. ENS
