A 49-year-old man committed suicide in Syavni village of Tikamgarh district late on Tuesday,an hour after a caste panchayat ordered his social boycott.
The panchayat had fixed a fine of Rs 3,600 because Dashrath Ahirwars daughter had conceived before marriage. The panchayat also ordered him and his wife to take a dip in a holy river.
The labourer told the panchayat that he wont be able to meet either conditions because he did not have money, in-charge of Lidhora Police Station B L Dugkaria told The Indian Express.
The panchyat led by a handful of villagers wanted Dashrath to pay the fine towards a village temple.
The victim,a father of four children, had filed a police complaint against a neighbour who got his daughter pregnant.
Though the two were having an affair, the police arrested the neighbour because Dashraths daughter was minor.
Later,Dashrath married his daughter to an acquaintances son in Uttar Pradesh to escape ignominy a couple of months ago.
However, the caste panchayat was not impressed and wanted Dashrath to face the consequences.
When Dashrath refused to pay the fine, the panchayat ordered the familys boycott in the presence of his family members.
Dashraths last rites were performed on Wednesday.
The police said a case would be filed against the panchayat members after taking statements of the victims family members.
