Meghalaya governor R S Mooshahary directed the Chancellor of Shillongs controversial CMJ University on Friday to refund fees, within 15 days,to all students who want to withdraw. He also directed the university to come out with a fresh list of PhD scholars and guides including the details of their addresses and contact numbers.
Taking strong exception to the remarks made by the universitys legal advisor and trustee,S P Sharma,Governor Mooshahary also directed the university officials to refrain from making comments in the media and issuing advertisements that were misleading. Sharma had sent a letter to the Governor on May 21,in which the university had said it was unable to comply with the Governors directives of April 30 because the CID had sealed its office and seized a number of documents and files.
Sharma had told the media in Shillong Thursday that the universitys Chancellor C M Jha had written a letter to the Chief Minister complaining that Governor Mooshaharys action was pre-meditated and against the interest of the students. Sharma had also said Chancellor Jha was not absconding as claimed by the police but was in Bihar because his father is seriously ill.
Governor Mooshahary, whose directives were issued on his behalf by his principal secretary M S Rao,pointed out that the university was running several off-campus centres in violation of the UGC rules.
