Maoists Sunday refuted a claim by Jharkhand Police that eight to 10 rebels were killed in an encounter between March 13 and 14 in Gumla district.
Only one cadre of Peoples Liberation Guerrilla Army was killed in the encounter that lasted over 48 hours in Kerakona forests of Gumla, said a press release by Gopal, spokesperson for the Bihar-Jharkhand North Chhattisgarh Special Area Committee. Since the forces failed to destroy our guerrilla army they are now making false claims that they killed 10 of our members, the statement added.
While the security forces could not recover the body of even a single Maoist,Gumla SP Jatin Narewal had earlier told The Indian Express that his men had seen the bodies of at least eight to 10 Maoists in the forest.
A heavy contingent of the CRPF,CoBRA,Jaguar and district forces was moving towards Kerakona when the rebels retaliated. The Maoists allegedly managed to surround a team of the Jaguar force for over 24 hours, till Jharkhand DGP Rajeev Kumar led an operation on the ground and managed to the reportedly rescue the personnel as well as retrieve the body of a slain security personnel.
The Maoist statement said,Though eight top officers were leading the operation, our PLGA cadres not only encircled a major section of their forces for over 30 hours,we also damaged their coordination and supplies.
