Mango lovers are in for a treat this summer as output is expected to rise by about 25 per cent, inspite of temperatue soaring prematurely, scientists have said.

8220;Mango production this season will rise by about 25 per cent inspite of the temperature rising before time,8221; Lucknow- based Central Institute for Subtropical Horticulture8217;s crop production department head S R Bhrigvanshi said.

The country had produced 1.31 crore tonnes of mango last year.

According to scientists at the Institute, which is known for its mango research, temperatures have soared by 4-5 degrees all of a sudden, which will have an adverse impact on production, but output, nevertheless, will rise by 25 per cent this year.

8220;We were looking forward to record production this season before the temperature soared in March, which will have an impact on the output,8221; Bhrigvanshi said.

8220;The crop is good this time. We expect 20-25 per cent increase in output this time. But production could have been even better had the temperature had not been so high,8221; All India Fruit Producers and Exporters Association President B D B Ramchandani said.

India produces about half of 2.3 crore tonnes of mango produced world wide.
