The district administration has allowed BJP MP Maneka Gandhi to meet her son Varun Gandhi on Saturday. Varun,BJPs candidate from Pilibhit, has been detained under the National Security Act NSA and is lodged in Etah jail.
Earlier on Friday,Maneka was denied permission to meet Varun on the ground that under the rules,Varun could meet family members or his friends only twice a week. If she wants to meet her son more than twice in a week, she will have to seek permission from the competent authorities, the district administration said.
On being contacted,District Magistrate of Etah Gaurav Dayal said he had received a request from her for permission to meet her son. She would meet Varun tomorrow. She could not be allowed to meet him today Friday as her application reached late, he clarified.
After being denied permission to meet her son,Maneka was reported to have said that had Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati been a mother, she would have understood her agony. Maneka said she was fed up with the injustice being meted out to a young man.
If Mayawati herself was a mother she would understand, but this is unfair and illegal, she said. With PTI
