Lokpal will paralyse govt: Katju

Opposing the Lokpal Bill,Press Council of India chairperson Markandey Katju said the government would not be able to function after the appointment of a Lokpal

Opposing the Lokpal Bill,Press Council of India chairperson Markandey Katju said the government would not be able to function after the appointment of a Lokpal.

At a press conference here on Tuesday,Katju said that at least 50,000-55,000 Lokpals would have to be appointed in order to handle the complaints against 50 lakh-60 lakh government employees in the country. “They will need salaries, residences… and a large number of them will become blackmailers,” he said, adding that there was no logic behind creating a parallel bureaucracy.

Katju reiterated his statement that Anna Hazare is an honest person but lacks the scientific ideas which are required to fight corruption.

On the construction of parks and memorials by the earlier Mayawati government,Katju said while these may amount to squandering of public funds, there was no violation of law.
