Mladic knows hes headed to The Hague
SERBIA: Former military commander Ratko Mladic knows he will be extradited to a UN war crimes tribunal but wants time to rest before the trip,his lawyer said Saturday. Mladic,69,is being held in a Serbian jail and could be extradited Monday if a judge rejects his appeal of a decision to move him to The Hague. Serbias police chief said security has been tightened ahead of a protest by ultranationalists over Mladics arrest.
Teen scales peaks in seven continents
KATHMANDU: George Atkinson has become the youngest Briton to scale all the highest mountains on seven continents after successfully climbing Mt. Everest on Thursday. Atkinson was 16 years and 362 days when he reached the top of the world,according to Adventure Peak. Atkinson started his Seven Summits quest at age 11 when he reached the top of Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.
Gaddafi compound guard towers hit
TRIPOLI: NATO aircraft destroyed guard towers at Muammar Gaddafis compound in Tripoli,a NATO official said on Saturday,then staged a rare daytime airstrike on the Libyan capital,stepping up pressure on him to quit. RAF Typhoons,with other NATO aircraft,on Friday night used precision-guided weapons to bring down guard towers along the walls of Gaddafis Bab al-Aziziyah complex in the centre of Tripoli,Major General John Lorimer,chief British military spokesman,said in a statement.
Temporary truce in Yemen to enable talks
SANAA: A mediator between Yemeni government troops and armed tribesmen seeking President Ali Abdullah Salehs ouster said Saturday a temporary ceasefire is in place to allow for negotiations after five days of clashes that left 124 dead. The mediator said the sides are discussing terms that will see fighters loyal to Sheik Sadeq al-Ahmar pull out from at least nine government ministries they occupied during this weeks fighting.
