Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on Tuesday admitted that the ongoing security operation in the Maoist-hit Lalgarh has failed to achieve the desired results but at the same time he said the joint operation of the Central and state forces to flush out Naxals from the area would continue.
Despite feeling the pressure from the Trinamool Congress on withdrawing Central forces from Lalgarh and its adjoining areas,Bhattacharjee refused to give a timeframe on how long the Central forces would continue to stay in the area. The Chief Minister was in Debra in West Midnapore on Tuesday where he inaugurated Shahid Khudiram College.
The state had deployed joint forces in the area on June 18 to flush out Maoists. But after initial success, the forces were not able to curb the killings perpetrated by the Naxals.
