Kulgam rape,Fai arrest shut Valley

The Kashmir Valley observed complete shutdown against the alleged abduction and rape.

The Kashmir Valley on Saturday observed complete shutdown against the alleged abduction and rape of a 32-year-old woman in Kulgam and arrest of Kashmiri lobbyist Ghulam Nabi Fai in the US. The shutdown call was given by Hurriyat hardliner Syed Ali Shah Geelani.

At Gujjar Dara,Social Welfare Minister Sakina Itoo visited the family and interacted with the alleged victim.

The Special Investigation Team has already started working, said DIG,South Kashmir,Shafkat Watali. The government on Thursday announced the setting up of the SIT to probe the incident.

He said the police were yet to decide on whether an identification parade of Army personnel on patrol duty the day the woman alleged she was abducted will be conducted or not. We are tackling this case very cautiously, he said.

On Social Welfare Minister Itoos interaction with the victim,Gulzar Ahmad Dar,newly elected panch of the Gujjar Dara village,said the victim told Itoo that she was abducted and raped by two unidentified army men in the forests. He added,Itoo assured the family that truth will be exposed. When contacted,Itoo said,I told the family and the victim that they should cooperate with the investigating agencies so that guilty should be punished.

In the valley,barring a few incidents of stone throwing,the shutdown remained peaceful. In Srinagar,all shops,business establishments and schools remained closed. Though fewer private vehicles plied on the roads of the city,the public transport was completely off the roads.
