The Jharkhand High Court on Thursday granted bail to former chief minister Madhu Koda in a case of alleged grant of mining leases illegally, but he will continue to remain in jail in other cases.

Koda,in judicial custody since November 30,2009,was granted bail by the single bench of H C Mishra in the case in which the CBI had filed a chargesheet against him and others in a special CBI court, accusing him of allotting mining leases to some companies illegally. Koda will, however, remain in prison in four other cases of hawala transactions and disproportionate assets.

The Independent legislator was arrested by the officers of Jharkhand Vigilance Bureau from Chaibasa after countrywide raids by Income Tax and Enforcement Directorate on 69 premises on October 31.

The I-T department had alleged that documents relating to illegal investments and hawala transactions valued at Rs 2,500 crore were seized during the raids.
