The incident of a Pawan Hans crew member getting killed after falling off mid-air from a helicopter on Friday has prompted Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu to think of reviewing continuation of the public-sector helicopter company8217;s operations in the state.

8220;This incident cannot be ignored as a stray incident of technical snag. Pawan Hans Company should be told in strong words to maintain adequate safety measures,8221; Khandu said, adding that the state government might be compelled to call off its arrangement with Pawan Hans. Governor J J Singh has also expressed anguish over the incident. In a Raj Bhawan statement,Singh said those found guilty of the snag should be given exemplary punishment.

Pawan Hans helicopters operating in the state are known for regular technical snags, with Khandu expressing doubts over proper maintenance of the aircrafts. 8220;We have witnessed instances of Pawan Hans helicopters developing technical snags mid-air,questioning its proper maintenance and safety of the passengers aboard especially in our hilly terrain,8221; Khandu said.

8220;Pawan Hans helicopter service is synonymous to civil aviation in our state. We expect them to maintain the aircraft in absolutely safe flying conditions. But such repeated incidents of technical snags may lead us to review our continuity in availing of their services in the interest of safety of passengers,8221; Khandu said from Itanagar on Sunday.
