Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Saturday warned the Congress that it should not consider the BSPs support to the UPA government as her partys weakness or compulsion, but at the same time did a balancing act by adding that her party would continue to support the central government.
Claiming that her party had extended support to the UPA in the national interest,Mayawati said it was to save the central government from blackmail and to weaken the communal forces. The UP CM ended up advising the Congress to keep a close watch on parties that practise the politics of blackmail.
Those who talk about the withdrawal of BSPs support from the Centre should be kept under strict vigil. I mean Amar Singh and Digvijay Singh. They might have joined hands, she told reporters at a press conference.
Earlier,SP national general secretary Amar Singh had questioned the BSPs decision to continue its support to the Centre while adopting a belligerent attitude against the Congress over the UPCC chief Rita Joshi episode.
While Mayawati reiterated her support to the UPA government, she trained her guns at Amethi MP Rahul Gandhi. Reacting to his remarks that it was the state governments job to increase power generation, she released a white paper on power situation and factors responsible for it. She promised to rid UP of power cuts by 2014-end.
She said she had asked the government officers to hand over this booklet to all MPs and MLAs of the Congress. First of all, this book would be given to the Yuvaraj of the Congress. Instead of blaming the BSP government,he needs to do some soul-searching, the CM said.
Mayawati also blamed the reluctance of investors to set up industries in the state on the Congress, saying she had studied the reasons.
She said the birth of the BSP had much to do with the failure of the Congress in ensuring good governance and delivery system during its long rule.
