INS flays strike call by newspaper agents in Kerala

Ashish Bagga, president of the Indian Newspaper Society has condemned the call given by a section of newspaper agents in Kerala for a statewide indefinite strike from Mach 20

Ashish Bagga, president of the Indian Newspaper Society INS has condemned the call given by a section of newspaper agents in Kerala for a statewide indefinite strike from Mach 20.

While most of the agents are not in favour of a strike of this nature, this minority is threatening them, said a statement issued by INS. The demands raised by those behind the strike include increasing trade discount to 50 per cent of cover price, festival allowance and pension etc, which the INS terms unjustified.

The current financial position of the newspaper organisations does not permit them to accede to these demands, said Bagga.

He said though the trade discounts offered by all Malayalam newspapers were identical, the strike wont include those run by political parties, such as Deshabhimani.
