India faces heat over its inconsistent stand on Syria

The US,Britain and France are reported to have expressed displeasure at New Delhis inconsistent position on Syria,as protests rage across that country against President Bashar al-Assad.

India as the chair of the United Nations Security Council is facing heat from the three permanent members to speak more forcefully against Syria. The UNSC on August 3 had issued a presidential statement which condemned Syria for rights violations.

For its part,an IBSA India,Brazil and South Africa delegation visited Syria on August 10,and issued a statement on the Assads commitment to reforms. New Delhi also abstained from the vote against Syria on August 23 at the Human Rights Council.

Sources said the US,Britain and France,who have been taking a very strong positions against the Syrian government,werent satisfied with Indias stand.
