The 26/11 Mumbai terror attack was Pakistan-sponsored terrorism it was executed by Lashkar-e-Toiba LeT at the behest of Pakistan, said Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam while opening his final arguments in the case at the special court on Tuesday.
State Home Minister R R Patil and Minister of State for Home,Ramesh Bagwe were in the courtroom when the final stage of the trial against lone arrested terrorist Ajmal Kasab and two Indians began.
Nikam pegged much of his opening statement on the retracted confessional statement given by Kasab before a magistrate though he added that enough substantial evidence was presented before the court to infer that Pakistan was behind the attack.
The Crime Branch seized fake college identity cards from the deceased and arrested accused. This proves that the attackers were acting on someones behalf or else why would a terror outfit conceal their illegal act, he argued.
Nikam said there were nine points based on which inferences could be drawn that Pakistan was behind the attack. He said Kasab in his confessional statement spoke about Major Saab, who according to Nikam,is a Pakistan Army officer. Reading from the confession,Nikam said during the weapons training to the attackers, this Major Saab had come and tested their firing abilities.
Another point he argued was about the intelligence training given to the attackers which could only be given with support from Army officials.
The FBI,which investigated the case in India and Pakistan, had also established that one Col R Sadatulla had accessed the voice over internet protocol account of Kharak Singh, through which the handlers communicated with the gunmen at Hotel Taj,Oberoi-Trident and Nariman House,Nikam said, adding that this was another important point to establish Pakistans role in the attack.
The prosecution claimed the 26/11 attack was not just merely an attack by 10 gunmen but a well-orchestrated and meticulously planned operation with deep hatred towards India. He urged Pakistan, which has been delaying the trial against seven arrested accused there, including Zaki-Ur-Rehman Lakhvi,to use the evidence adduced in the Mumbai court and conclude their proceedings at the earliest.
