IIM,IIT directors slam Jairam comments

At least two IIM directors and an IIT director,whom The Indian Express spoke to,gave the sense of disquiet among the fraternity about Ramesh's comments

Reacting to Environment Minister Jairam Rameshs statement that the IIT and IIM faculty is not world class and that world-class research cannot happen in government set-up,IIM and IIT directors said while there is scope for improvement,running down these institutions by a senior minister is thoroughly unbecoming. At least two IIM directors and an IIT director,whom The Indian Express spoke to,gave the sense of disquiet among the fraternity about Ramesh8217;s comments.

Director of IIM-Kozhikode Debasish Chatterjee said,Most IIM professors are themselves products of IIMs and IITs,so to say only students are good and faculty is not,does not hold8230; if I expect world class governance from the government and that cannot happen in government system,what will that say of the minister?

An IIT director,on condition of anonymity,said making a sweeping statement against the faculty is absolutely unbecoming. IIM-Ahmedabads Director Sameer Barua said,Institutes like IIM-A have been dealing with shortage of faculty and due to this,research has taken a back-seat.
