Karnataka Vocational Training and Skill Development Corporation KVTSDC today said that it has joined hands with IBM to develop a 8216;Smarter Employability Platform8217; using the company8217;s mobile and cloud technologies.
As part of the project,IBM would create a platform to effectively connect job-seekers and job-providers along with training and certification agencies in employability marketplaces accessible through mobile phones in local and vernacular languages.
Job-seekers would thus be able to find available jobs and apply for the same, while understanding job trends, and also refer opportunities to their friends: all through mobile phones,an IBM official said.
8220;Similarly,job providers can post jobs, increase their reach, find matching candidates, connect with trainers, and track latest trends through mobile phones and web channels,8221; he said.
KVTSDC and IBM signed an MoU for creation of the platform,in the presence of Karnataka Labour Minister B N Bachegowda and Director of IBM Research India amp; Chief Technologist,IBM India/South Asia,Manish Gupta.
The project would leverage technologies from IBM,including 8216;Spoken Web8217;,a voice-based equivalent of the World Wide Web designed to provide information of value to rural and semi-urban people through their mobiles or landlines in local languages.
A mobile crowd-sourcing platform would enable people to offer opportunities to each other, provide referrals, and drive rapid dissemination of available opportunities.
Moreover,skill-matching techniques would be used to match job-seekers with available jobs while employability analytics would allow employers and the government to understand demand and supply trends.
The employability marketplace would run on the IBM Cloud providing a pay-as-you-go model and elastic scaling.
In the first phase of the proposed project, the platform would be implemented in Mandya and Bijapur districts; it would be expanded to eight more districts of Karnataka in the second phase.
