The Information & Broadcasting Ministry on Thursday issued notices to UTV Bindaas for its primetime show Emotional Atyachar that boldly unravels the theme of fidelity through sting cameras and MTV for its hugely popular show Splitsvilla,in which teenage girls vie with each other to catch the attention of two male judges. Both channels have been charged with violating Rule 6 of the Programme Code prescribed under Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act,1995 with the shows allegedly containing obscene and vulgar scenes.
MTV has already been warned by the I&B Ministry for Splitsvilla as well as Roadies and asked to desist from using vulgar language and obscene gesticulations. Last month,Fashion TV was taken off air for five days after the ministry charged it with showing frontal nudity. Officials say the UTV Bindaas show virtually eggs participants to cheat on thier partner, which is captured on sting cameras. The show then records reaction of the couple as they watch the sting tapes, with near explicit material and language, together.
Officials contend it is difficult to pin down TV channels telecasting bold and titillating content as the government is reluctant to implement censorship guidelines on its own.
