Hizbuls operational chief held

Though a fortnight has passed,the police are yet to announce his arrest.

While the J-K Police is yet to announce the arrest of a top commander of Hizbul Mujahideen it picked up last week,the Hizbul Mujahideen and the family of the militant are confirming the arrest.

Hizb8217;s operational chief Mohammad Shafi Shah was arrested from the house of a relative in a Srinagar neighbourhood on the night of October 2. Though a fortnight has passed,the police are yet to announce his arrest.

Hizbul Mujahideen,however,confirmed Shah8217;s arrest but termed him Hizb8217;s divisional commander. 8220;Organisation8217;s divisional commander Mohammad Shafi Shah has been arrested by police from Srinagar,8221; Hizb8217;s Pakistan-based spokesman Saleem Hashmi told a local news agency on the phone.

Shah8217;s relatives say he was arrested from Noorbagh neighbourhood of Srinagar from a relative8217;s house. He had gone to offer them condolences as they had lost a member in an accident.
