The Centre would give Rs 50 crore for relief and rehabilitation work in Sikkim where nine villages are still cut off in the North district,Home Minister P Chidambaram said on Thursday. After assessment of the situation,medium and long-term rehabilitation programme would be drawn up,he said,adding the Centre would work with the state to restore normalcy.

Four states promise over Rs 18 crore

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced an assistance of Rs 5 crore for the quake-affected state. Uttarakhand Chief Minister B C Khanduri announced an assistance of Rs 3 crore to the victims. Both states have promised humanitarian help to the Sikkim government. Maharashtra announced it would give Rs 10 crore for relief and rehabilitation work. Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi also contributed Rs 50 lakh for relief and rehabilitation efforts.

Mizoram promises help in relief work

The Mizoram government said it would extend all possible help for relief and rescue operations in Sikkim. In a letter to Sikkim CM Pawan Kumar Chamling,Mizoram CM Lal Thanhawla said his government was ready to render any possible assistance.
