HCL eyes at 22% laptop market share

HCL Infosystems Ltd said it is targetting 20 per cent pie in the laptop market over the next two years.

Computer maker HCL Infosystems Ltd said it is targetting 20 per cent pie in the laptop market over the next two years on the back of growing sales.

“The sale in the laptop segment is growing at a rate of 22 per cent as against 3.2 per cent of desk top,” HCL Executive Vice President George Paul told reporters here after launching a new marketing initiatives ‘HCL Mobile Excitement’ in Punjab and Haryana.

The company has 6.4 per cent share in the laptop market at present.

Paul said last year the company had sold seven million units across the country out of which 35 per cent sale was in the laptop segment.

“The HCL,with its entry only three years back,is a new entrant in laptop market,” he said adding that the sale of company’s laptop is expected to shoot up by around 20 per cent during the ongoing festive season.

Based on the findings of a survey carried out by research firm IMRB,the HCL has launched the new marketing campaign to establish a “more youthful and vibrant image” of the brand to ensure stronger connection with the GenNext consumers,he said.

The HCL registered a revenue turnover of USD 2.6 billion USD in FY09.

With 32 per cent share in the laptop market,HP is the current market leader,Paul said.
