Those recruited include relatives of at least two MLAs and a son of a close aide of Haryan Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

Two constables posted as jail warders in the Haryana Prisons Department challenged the appointments in the Punjab and Haryana High Court alleging favouritism. The High Court issued a stay on the recruitment process last week.

The petitioners have alleged that the HPSC finalised the appointments on the basis of walk-in interviews only and no written test.

Even as the state government contended that they were in the process of amending the rules,Justice Rajiv Narain Raina issued a stay on the appointment and pointed out that “… In case the appointments are made and the selected candidates join service,it would … generate further litigation which would inevitably arise immediately upon the new rules being notified.”
