Central Industrial Security Force CISF director-general N R Dass recent remark that the force had sent 16 commandos to the Indian High Commission in Pakistan has got the force red-faced now.
On March 10,Das had said 16 commandos had been sent to Islamabad around 15 days back to perform VIP security duties. On March 12,the force came out with a clarification stating that the plan was to send 16 personnel to perform duties of drivers and support staff to Pakistan. The CISF said the force was in the process of selecting these personnel.
Dass comments are believed to have prompted queries from the Pakistan High Commission, which reportedly sought details on the commandos who had been deployed in Islamabad. The forces flip-flop also has the Government miffed. Top Home Ministry officials are learnt to have conveyed their displeasure to the CISF DG.
Sources said had India sent its commandos to guard diplomats in Pakistan,it would have had to reciprocate the gesture by allowing Pakistani securitymen to guard the Pakistan High Commission in India. Currently, the host country provides security to diplomats in each others High Commission.
