Girls body found hanging,father jumps to death

We have registered a case of accidental death and sought call detail records of the father and the daughter. We will find out who she was in contact with and who she spoke to on Monday. We will call those individuals for questioning, said Narendra Vichare,senior inspector,Antop hill police station.

Meghnas mother Meenu died of brain tumour 10 years ago and her youngest sister Tanya succumbed to complications arising of a psoriasis four years ago. She was 12 years old.

Ramesh was probably shocked due to the third death in his family, said sub-inspector Pravin Munde.

The police said Meghna was alone at home Monday while Ramesh and Priyanka were at work Monday.

When Priyanka returned around 9 pm and rang the doorbell,there was no response. She called Meghnas cellphone with no luck. Priyanka then asked me to open the door,but I couldnt, said a neighbour.

With the help of three boys,we finally managed to break open the door and found Meghna hanging. Priyanka immediately called her father,who reached home 10 minutes later. After a few minutes,he stepped out and before anyone could react,climbed the ledge and jumped, the neighbour said.

Meghna was a bright student and passed the second year exam with distinction. We never pressured her regarding academics and let her do what she wanted, said her cousin Rohit.

She was outgoing and popular among family members, he said,adding that the family would wait for police to complete the probe.

The last rites of the father and daughter were conducted at a crematorium in Sion Tuesday evening.

The family told us that there was no dispute between Ramesh and Meghna. We will call her teachers at Khalsa College and record Priyankas statement later, said Vichare.
