Geelani blames govt for forced conversions

The controversy over forced conversion of Muslim boys and girls to Christianity is spiralling with separatist leaders in the Kashmir valley taking up the issue

The controversy over forced conversion of Muslim boys and girls to Christianity is spiralling with separatist leaders in the Kashmir valley taking up the issue.

Expressing his anger,Hurriyat hardliner Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Sunday convened a seminar in Srinagar to discuss the forced conversion by Christian missionaries while Hurriyat dove Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has called a meeting of religious scholars on Monday.

In his speech,Geelani termed the forced conversions as an offshoot of occupation. When I say apostasy,I dont mean only the change of belief, Geelani said. We have all apostatised. We are apostates in our actions. There is moral waywardness. And it is a matter of great concern.

Geelani accused the government of patronising the moral waywardness saying their aim is to desensitise and demoralise the youth.
