8216;Gangrape8217; victim sets self on fire,critical

She was raped the second time after she tried to lodge a police complaint against the accused.

A 15-year-old girl,who was allegedly gangraped two months ago,set herself on fire Tuesday. The girl,who suffered almost 70 per cent burns,is reportedly battling for life at the state government-run R G Kar Hospital.

The girl was allegedly gangraped twice in October. She was raped the second time after she tried to lodge a police complaint against the accused.

The victims family lodged complaints against six persons. While three accused were arrested earlier,two more,including prime accused Minta, were arrested on Wesnesday.

According to the victims parents,she tried to commit suicide following threats from the accused and adverse comments from neighbours. Her family said they also had to leave Madhyamgram in North-25 Paraganas and relocate to Dum Dum in North-24 Parganas.

My daughter is very critical. I am running from pillar to post for her treatment. I am not getting any government aid, the victims father,who is a taxi driver,said Wednesday.

Superintendent,R G Kar Medical College,Dibyendu Gautam refused to acknowldege that any such girl was undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Meanwhile,the West Bengal Commission for Women said callousness of the Child Welfare Committee and Barasat State General Hospital forced the victim to attempt suicide.
