Gangrape victim ends life,tension in Rajouri

Tension gripped Kalakote area of Rajouri district after a minor girl committed suicide protesting police inaction against people who allegedly gangraped her four days ago.

Tension gripped Kalakote area of Rajouri district after a minor girl committed suicide protesting police inaction against people who allegedly gangraped her four days ago.

The accused included a government school teacher,Mohammad Jaffar,and his two associates Aurangzeb and Iftikar Hussain. Jaffar also ran a private academy at Khargala. Sub-Divisional Magistrate,Nowshera,Rajinder Sharma said two of the accused have been arrested.

Sources said Jaffar lured the girl to his academy after school hours four days ago. He and the two others then raped her. The police nabbed the three after the girls parents lodged a complaint but later released them.

After the girl came to know about their release,she consumed some poisonous substance on Monday. She died on Tuesday. As news of her death spread,people took to the streets and pelted stones at Zaffars house.

HC stays Italian marines trial

The Kerala High Court on Tuesday stayed the trial in a Kollam court against two Italian marines in connection with the killing of two Indian fishermen in February this year.

The marines,who are out on bail,had approached the High Court after the district sessions court rejected their plea seeking a copy of the chargesheet in Italian language. Counsel for the marines P Vijayabhanu told the court that the police documents submitted in the court were in English and Malayalam languages the accused did not understand. ENS
