Gajab Desh Ki Ajab Kahaniyaan

Just when we felt Rakhi Sawant couldn’t go bizarre than her turn as a justic- peddler in last year’s Rakhi Ka Insaaf,she has returned (shudder) with the show’s second season. Called Gajab Desh Ki Ajab Kahaniyan — it should have been Gajab Desh Ki Ajab Rakhi – she picks weird cases to fight over,wasting precious screen-time (we really wonder how Imagine lets its imagination go so berserk) trying to solve their ‘cases’ or matters.

So you have a paid audience mainly of extras,old uncles and aunties and front -benchers,even college students who we think are learning priceless lessons in Rakhi’s notorious laughing and clapping and even giving their two-penny advice to the warring parties. Don’t even ask us what the cases are – it’s more like gone cases! There was stand-up comic Naveen Prabhakar who we didn’t understand what his purpose was than to give high-fives to Rakhi,passing silly jokes and breaking into Hindi songs every two minutes. They both had their own little private party going on while the warring parties fiddled their thumbs and smiled nervously for making a spectacle of themselves. Spectacle,did we say? In the first episode,Rakhi dressed like Parveen Babi in Jawani jaaneman haseen dilruba,in a short gold dress,with her famous assets tumbling out for everyone’s benefit,tried to make the show entertaining with her loud act. She danced,she spoke in her broken English,tried to be la-di-dah,broke into a song (and lets tell you,her notes were going all over the place),cracked jokes,and made comments laced with innuendo. Obscene is not the word! And entertainment,certainly not! We fail to understand what the entire purpose of the exercise is – two one-hour episodes over the weekend is a huge waste of time and effort,ours that is,to even try to see it. That Rakhi Sawant is brazen is an understatement. She entertained us as a coy bride in the channel’s farcical swayamvar,then she played clown in the pati,patni and baccha enterprise on the same channel but to see her like this is an embarrassment to all our senses.

Verdict: Whatever.
