Fuel price hike: NDA mulls Bharat bandh

Having opposed the hike in prices of petroleum products, the Opposition NDA may call a Bharat bandh to intensify its attack on the government.

Having opposed the hike in prices of petroleum products, the Opposition NDA may call a Bharat bandh to intensify its attack on the government. NDA convenor Sharad Yadav is planning to consult constituents of the front and reach out to non-NDA Opposition parties on the issue.

While Yadav floated the idea of a bandh, the BJP immediately supported it. On behalf of my party,I support the proposal, said BJP general secretary Dharmendra Pradhan while announcing the launch of an agitation against the hike in fuel prices by his party.

By extending support to Yadavs proposal, the BJP also signalled that the strain in its ties with the JDU was over.

Hoping to anchor the Oppositions offensive,Yadav said: Everybody has opposed the move, every party has dubbed it as a cruel blow to the common man. Notwithstanding their ideological and political differences, all parties should come together and oppose this hike in the interest of the people.

Yadav said he would reach out to the Left and other parties in the Opposition, but termed the protests by UPA allies like Trinamool Congress as drama. They are sharing the fruits of power and at the same time they are opposing the decision, he said.
