The Delhi Police Special Cell on Sunday arrested three more persons, including a former Ranji player, from Aurangabad for their alleged involvement in spot-fixing in IPL matches. A fourth person who earlier played for the Railways as well as in the Indian Cricket League is also likely to be arrested soon.
The three who were arrested at around 5 am today have been identified as Sunil Bhatia,44,Kiran Dole,42,and Manish Guddewar,32 all residents of Nagpur. While they are alleged to be bookies, sources said their primary role was to mediate between bookies and players.
Police said the trio were mainly in touch with Rajasthan Royals player Ajit Chandila who was arrested on Thursday. Claiming that Chandila was in touch with four sets of bookies at the same time, police said he may have struck deals for different matches, other than the three Rajasthan Royals matches which are being probed.
According to the police,Guddewar played for Vidarbha in the Ranji Trophy from 2003-2005. Prior to 2000,he is reported to have resided in Faridabad and played cricket with Chandila who hails from the same area. Police claimed it was Guddewar who arranged the meeting between Chandila,Bhatia and Dole, and they have evidence of the meetings in Mumbai,Delhi and Gurgaon.
Guddewar,Bhatia and Dole were produced before a magistrate this afternoon and sent to policy custody for five days.
